В конце 2006 года Корган дал знать о начале работы над новым альбомом The Smashing Pumpkins. Исполнитель сообщил, что в записи нового диска участвует Чемберлен, не разглашая имена остальных музыкантов. 7 февраля 2007 года в 7:07 он опубликовал в блоге группы название и дату выхода нового альбома — Zeitgeist (нем. Дух времени) увидел свет 10 июля 2007 года (была заявлена другая дата — 07.07.07, но в связи с тем, что альбомы, как правило, выпускаются по вторникам, её пришлось изменить). Позднее было объявлено о восьми европейских фестивальных выступлениях группы, предваряющих выход альбома — с 28 мая по 17 июня 2007 года.
Первый сингл с Zeitgeist, „Tarantula“, стал доступен в Сети в июне 2007 года. Трек „Doomsday Clock“ вошёл в официальном саундтрек фильма „Трансформеры“. В январе 2008 года Корган и Чемберлин вдвоём записали 4-песенный мини-альбом, который был озаглавлен American Gothic и также выпущен под вывеской The Smashing Pumpkins.
